An activity stream, also known as an activity feed, is a digital feed of aggregated information that contain recent activities and conversations, typically seen on social networking platforms. The activities shown are relevant to the user in some way. Users generally follow or subscribe to other people, accounts or topics, to receive activity updates.

Aggregated, Notification and Flat are three of the most common types of activity streams. Updates from the people, topics, or accounts a user follows are combined into one update in aggregated activity streams. The number of updates can be reduced by combining similar items here. Users will be able to know when they have been tagged in something or when other users do certain actions in notification streams. Activities like unread messages, , task assignments, replies, mentions and likes are shown in these feeds. Updates about people they are following are provided in Flat activity streams.
